These textiles are quilts. To me they are a receptive object, a shelter, envelope, covering. They are intended to be a progressive empowering positive image of women. Piecing comfort sometimes for the body and always for the soul. In this way Herstory is told with wisdom garnered through the eyes and points of needles. In these pieces the spoken word manifests itself visually, the quilt is symbolically the embodiment of its maker and/or recipient(s). In these pieces the form of the fabric is liken to skin, pierced and marked ceremoniously as is a quilt a documentation for lifes passages. These pieces are a channel for my voice and are created of personal and collective metaphor and memory.
As Jah's wind manifests
This sound is the Word
the Voice may be heard
